MPS has been very successful in placing newly-qualified
teachers from Ireland into good schools in both England and Wales.
It is normal practice in the UK to appoint teachers on either a
1-year contract or a permanent post. There are many advantages for
the teacher from Ireland by gaining a full-time post with the benefits
of a guaranteed monthly income and valuable teaching experience.
Teaching posts are available in both Secondary and Primary Sectors.
In some areas, it is possible to place friendship groups who want
to live in a small area, together. As far as possible, MPS tries
to place Irish teachers in schools within reasonable distance of
transport links connected to Ireland.
For example:
South and mid Essex and Cambridgeshire
Stansted Airport, London.
Gloucester, Bristol and M4 corridor, for Bristol Airport and
Swansea Cork Ferry.
South Wales, for Fishguard-Rosslare Ferry and Cardiff Airport.
North Wales/Liverpool/Manchester for Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire Ferry.
The basic salary starting level for qualified teachers is £18,150
(as at July 2003) plus any additional allowances.
For the first six years, pay increases are twice yearly
September and April.

MPS presents students to client schools for shortlisting and interview.
A consultant, where possible, attends and supports the school and
interviewee during the interview period.
It is normal policy in the UK that candidates are observed teaching
a lesson which may be from 30 minutes to one hour in length. Lesson
title and plan will be given a week in advance.
A more formal interview, usually involving the Headteacher, a Governor
and the Head of Department, will form part of the assessment process.
(Please note, some schools are more conservative in their expectation
of staff dress than others. Please bear this in mind).
If the school is going to make you a job offer, then it is almost
certain that it will be made on the day of interview. You will be
expected to accept or decline this offer there and then. The last
question in interview will be, Are you a firm candidate for
this post? If you say Yes, then you can hardly
decline if, in the next breath, they offer you the job! At that
moment, you will then be asked to sign a contract. This is a legal
Contract of Employment and should, in your own interest, be honoured.
The school will normally offer you advice and information on finding
accommodation and it is in your own interest to keep in touch with
the school.
If appointed, the travel expenses will be paid to you in your first
months salary. However, if you are unsuccessful, the expenses
will be paid within a few days of your claim.
